Notes on the Grenoble Overprint Issue, below.
This issue is an El Dorado for specialists.
THE BLACK OVERPRINTING. Within the post office panes of fifty stamps, there are 25 pairs of stamps with black overprint type A (left) and overprint type B (right). You can easily see the differences in the illustration. Basically, one type has a black filled center, and the other is unfilled.
BLACK OVERPRINT PLATE FLAWS. Many flaws exist in the black overprint at certain positions in the sheet which are constant. Their locations within the panes of stamps have been identified.
INVERTS OF THE BLACK OVERPRINT. At certain positions within the panes of stamps, the printer's plate of one type or the other of the black overprint was inserted upside down in relation to its neighbors of the same type.
INVERTS OF THE SILVER OVERPRINT UNDERLAY. Panes were printed where the silver underlay, on top of which the black logo and text was overprinted, is also inverted. That arises when the sheet of original Yeti stamps to be overprinted was inserted into the printing press inverted. The silver, being a blank oval field on each stamp, is identified as being inverted by always being far off center in relation to the stamp. Sheet units with inverted silver are easily identified because the black marginal inscriptions on the sheets are not on top of the silver in the margin, which, when inverted, is in the opposite margin.
DOUBLE IMPRESSIONS (SILVER AND BLACK). Panes are known where the black overprinting has been printed twice, and on other sheets, the silver underlay appears more times than it should in a sheet, with the additional impressions misplaced and often only partially on one stamp.
MISSING IMPRESSIONS (SILVER AND BLACK). Stamps have been seen in the market with the silver field printed properly, but with no black text/logo printed on top of it. The reverse has also been seen - the black is present, but the silver is missing. Everywhere the black appears and has no silver underneath it, could thus be "sub-varieties" be from a position on the sheet where the black is inverted or a position where there is a constant flaw.
IMPERFORATES. This issue was officially released also in imperforate format. All the flaws and errors (except double and excess impressions) that were addressed above repeat themselves in the imperforate stamps and panes.
See the Errors and Varieties pages, where tables of existing varieties will assist you in studying this issue. Requests for price quotations on available varieties are solicited.

Pheasants Issue, -- xxx, 1968
Set of 9, -- postage and -- airmail), Scott 92-92I, MNH
The set exists in imperforate format. See the Errors & Varieties pages. The Bhutan P&T did not authorize production of imperforates of this set, but the agent printed and sold them anyway. It's not clear whether the imperforates were sold in Bhutan, but they were at least tolerated as postage (or unwittingly slipped through the mailstream), because imperforates exist on covers. It is not critical that these covers must hve been from the 1960s to be valid and philatelically worthwhile, because the Bhutan P&T sells stamps until the stocks are exhausted - there is no concept of "contemporaneous" usage with respect to stamps that were actively distributed and sold for years after their issuance.
